Ermelo 2007 – a Festival for Yvette & Harold Zoet
- The Valk Family – breeder of the year 2006 -
In the middle Vechtzicht’s Hywel with his owners, Yvette & Harold Zoet
All supporters and fans of Welsh ponies section A and Partbred must have been impressed when visiting the central stallion registration at the KNHS centre in Ermelo this year.
7 of the altogether 21 three year old Welsh A stallions put forward for selection by the eagle eyed, strict jury got through to be accepted as registered stallions. In addition only 3 of the 12 four year old Welsh A stallions were approved of by the judges who carried out their judging with a determined well trained and correct eye.
The 3 best placed stallions qualified for the competition against one another for the Overseas Medal, awarded this year by Mr David Blair from the famous Waxwing Stud, a renowned, experienced and successful Welsh breeder who is also responsible for the Welsh Pony and Cob Society Journal. Mr Blair, impressed by the quality seen, finally decided on the (from the Dutch Jury second placed) English bred 3 year old grey: Vennebos Pretty Gamble from Knodishall Geraint out of Nerwyn Pert from Nerwyn Cadno, bred by R.A.J. Thielen-van Praat, Gilze, owned by the Ysselvliedt stud from Yvette & Harold Zoet from Wezep.
As breeder and fan of the Welsh B I was personally a little bit disappointed with the quality of the Welsh B's shown. From the 25 shown, only 3 were accepted. The winner of the three year olds got the overseas medal: the liver chestnut Warmtebron’s Hielke by Den Bramel’s Rio out of Wheemhoeve’s Nikita by Woldberg’s Bart, breeder and owner the van der Weerd family from Oldebroek.
As speculated upon in the stable gangway the only four year old registered stallion in 2007, Linde Hoeve’s Daniel by Shamrock Mr Oliver out of Daisy by Keston Blue Chip, changed hands and will be available at stud in the coming season in Germany in the Weser-Ems region.
One of the many highlights in Ermelo is an eye opener for every Welsh fan – the championships and overall championships – these usually take place on the second day at about midday.
Vechtzicht’s Hywel, Overall Champion in Ermelo 2007
I found the overall champion, the 12 year old grey stallion Vechtzicht’s Hywel by Springborne Claret out of Vechtzicht’s Hylight by Lightfeet bred by W. Dobber, Breukelen, and owned by Yvette and Harold Zoet from Wezep, were well awarded (rightfully so) exceeded their previous success rates with even more success this year in Ermelo; - not only with Vechtzicht’s Hywel as overall champion and with Vennebos Pretty Gamble as winner of the Overseas Medal in addition three of the four Welsh A stallions they presented were accepted to be registered next to Pretty Gamble: The 3 year old chestnut Rookery Jackpot by Dukeshill Magnum out of Rookery Jacqueline by Springbourne Halwyn, bred by Mrs. R. Mills, Hereford, and the 8 year old palomino stallion: Cwmnantgwyn Little Giant by Betws Cawr out of Coed Coch Penadur bred by L.Wilson, both imported from the United Kingdom.
In the evening presentation „Night of the Stallions“ the Valk family Senior & Junior from Radewijk and Waterlandkerkje (Wildzank Stud)were given the title breeder of the year 2006 for their outstanding achievements and continual breeding success, awarded by the Dutch Welsh Pony and Cob Stamboek.
In conclusion Ermelo 2007 was once again a springboard for the inspiration of supporters and breeders of the Welsh breed in general and an indication for the future. We were pleased to have been able to witness the comings and goings of Ermelo 2007 and look forward to Ermelo 2008!!
